So any news about the hard copy, the revised pdf or even the author? Please let there be something!
Games I like have a tendency to die far too early (Nephilim, Agone, Mechanical Dream, Secret of Zir'an... the list goes on and on!) but Spellbound Kingdoms is just too good to fade into obscurity.
Anything indicating that SK is still alive?

Thats sad.
I've going to run the game again in a couple of months, and have been rereading the rules. SK really is a exceptionally complete game. I can't remember the last time I came across a game that gave you rules for warfare, organizations, culture, economy in a single tight, well written package. The book have a few editing errors, but all should be easy to straighten out.
Heres hoping it will be.

I'm saddened as well.
It is disappointing that Y hasn't even made a post in quite some time.
I know that it has been said that his job keeps him busy during the year but for a project like this to have a chance to take off you need to keep in the minds of the people that have bought your game.

I wish I had the resources to support the game myself cuz I would. I'm fiendin' for an updated pdf and a hard copy.
I just really hope nothing seriously bad has happened to Mr. Brunner or someone close to him... Thinking about it makes me feel guilty and selfish that I'm asking for this stuff from him not knowing what is actually going on.
Let us all just hope that everything is okay and that Frank will return when he can...

Hello everyone! Matt just sent me an email and asked about the work on the game. Here's what I wrote him:
Yes, there has been work on the SK front, and there will continue to be. I'll hop on over to the forums and put up a post.
I know it's been a long, unsupported while. My apologies.
But the good news is that a "full" Spellbound Kingdoms is coming. I don't have a projected date for it, but I'm pretty sure it will be before Starcraft 2. :P
I'd also love to get out and support the game at cons, but right now I'd put the odds of that at 25% thanks to the new baby, new job, and new house (in retrospect I picked a tough year to release a game, but on the other hand if I hadn't given myself a deadline, it might never have been released). If I do get out to some cons, it will be MEPACon, DexCon, maybe Origins, and GenCon. I know MadLordofMilk ran some SK at RudiCon last fall, and he might be up for some more this spring.
The "complete" Spellbound Kingdoms, by the way, is going to incorporate some old suggestions from MacLeod and others. It's going to be more dungeon-crawl friendly, with some more body points, some maneuvers and weapons that do more than 1 or 2 body, slightly fewer maneuvers per style but greater variability among styles, and the Strength-check post-battle body recovery method I've used so much that it just seems to me the way the game should be played. Also the other stuff I've promised. And it will be free to those who have bought and registered!
Frank
So yes, I am working on it, and it will be coming! As you know, and I'm sure you agree, the state of the current pdf is not what I want it to be. It will be better. As an aside, I played a few sessions of a Traveller game using the SK rules this winter. It was a ton of fun. basically we just filed off the army names and put in starship names, did the same for the combat styles, and scrapped magic except for Hearts and Language of Stars, which we used as psionics. It was fun, but I still think it works best with the traditional setting. In fact, I'm trying to make the setting a little more traditional for the re-release, a little more dungeon-friendly, since that's what people always seem to ask about and gravitate to.
I can't promise that I'll be around these boards a ton right now... but feel free to email me... and I will be letting everyone know when the big release comes up!

I sent Frank another e-mail to see how things are going and this was his reply... Quote:Good to hear from you. All is well with me. Spending tons of time with my daughter; she rocks. Work continues on the full SK! And it's looking like my "before Starcraft 2" prediction is going to hold true. No guarantees, but I believe it will be out before SC2, which I'm judging should come out around the end of June. Most of what I said before on the forums still applies to the full SK, including the body recovery to facilitate a bit more dungeon crawly-ness, bigger disparity between maneuvers and styles (with slightly fewer maneuvers per style) to promote even stronger strategic choices, simplified mood and social combat rules, streamlined inspiration rules (basically no counting die-size increases, just an auto explosion, or two auto explosions if you have 2 or more in the inspiration), and of course all the stuff that it needs to be a full SK, including more monsters, glosses for all the styles, etc. Frank Sounds like everything is going good. =D We've got a little longer than two months 'til revised SK hits us!!! I'm pretty friggin' excited. To be honest, though, I never figured that Eoris would release before this revision! =P Then again given Vision of Essence's track record thus far there is no saying Eoris will be released before then. @_@

Any chance you can make MEPACon later this month? I'm considering going, it would great to meet you and try out SK. Sounds like you have a lot going on, so I understand if you can't make it. In any event, congratz and good luck with the rebaselining, that's a lot of "new" stuff at once... rudedd

I posted an update just now in a new thread. I didn't make MEPACon. I'll be at GenCon. I know MadLordofMilk and I are going to be playing some SK there. If anyone else wants in, let me know! Maybe start another thread for that?
