Hello,
I was looking at Arrowheart and there was one part that really didn't seem to make sense to me and it may be because I don't understand the Arrow Stab maneuver.
If you use Mighty Pull, it doesn't seem thematically appropriate for your next maneuver to be on the vertical axis. It only seems appropriate for your next maneuver to be Penetrate or Anticipate.
It doesn't make thematic sense that you would follow up a Mighty Pull with Shoot and Dive or Tumble and Shoot. There isn't an explanation of what Arrow Stab is but its name makes it sound like the move that Legolas does in The Two Towers where he jabbed the arrow into the eye of an oncoming orc.
So I guess the question is: Is arrow stab a basic bow shot?

Look at the bottom left of the Arrowheart Combat Style sheet. Arrow Stab is the only melee attack in that style. I don't see why performing a Mighty Pull and following it up with ANY other maneuver would be a problem (outside of Arrow Stab, of course). The point is, you are ignoring range penalties... so it applies to any attack that is ranged. Diving/tumbling after firing such a shot is irrelevant.

Thanks for that about Arrow Stab. I missed that area.
I'm not saying that it is a mechanical problem. I'm saying that it doesn't feel like what would happen following a Mighty Pull.
The way I envision it is the archer stands there, pulls back as far as possible and lets loose his shaft for a mighty, arcing shot.
not the above...and then dives for cover?
Or pulls back mightily on his bow, does a tuck and roll and comes out of it letting his arrow fly?
And since "next rnd" is a condition for it's use, it isn't like you can then take Aim and Breathe and then move to one of the other shots in that row.
Mechanically it works but the scene it conjures in my head doesn't seem right to me. If there was just a standard arrow shot in the same column, I wouldn't have this issue.

I think the point here is that the mighty pull is necessary for Penetrate and Anticipate. Don't forget that you can always take a Balancing Maneuver (the underlined maneuvers) so it is perfectly feasible to use Mighty Pull followed by an Archer's Shot (or even Shot on the Run though that doesn't seem beneficial unless you just have to move or else).
I see the other maneuvers in the column not necessarily as thematically related to the Pull, but instead as reactions for when you just can't perform the Penetrate or Anticipate. Say you spend the round doing the Mighty Pull with the intent of using Penetrate against a hated foe but when the time comes a half dozen archers pop up and prepare to pepper you. That d2 defense is going to get you hurt so you might want to fall back on Shoot And Dive or Tumble And Shoot in order to get the higher defense/cover. They even let you get a shot off so you might get lucky. Maybe an enemy pops up right next to you, then you can use Arrow Stab to at least defend yourself until you can ready a weapon more suitable to close in work.

Ok, that makes better sense then. I thought that taking a balancing maneuver was something that happened to you when someone else messed up your flow.

Hey Niall! Yep, Keith said it perfectly. Mighty Pull is great for Penetrate and Anticipate (btw when Anticipate goes off in combat, it rocks), but if you're not a master, you can always shoot an Archer's Shot after it. Or you can abort out of it, if circumstances change, and you need to Shoot and Dive or Arrow Stab the beast that popped up next to you.
