From your 'Power 19':
18) What are your publishing goals for this game?

Possibly Lulu, but I know that some games have had bad luck there. I like the idea of a print-on-demand service for all the obvious reasons, but if the quality isn’t there, then I may spring for a traditional publisher. Or perhaps I will go for a two-tier print run, with a short run from a known publisher and further copies available from Lulu. Regardless of what happens in print, I also plan to have .pdfs for sale through the usual channels (drivethrurpg and rpgnow, e23, et al.). There will also be a free Quick Start – Basic Rules guide online.

I'm planning on heading to Gen Con this year, and I was wondering whether you had determined what form you'll have the game in at Gen Con? I would be willing to prepay if it meant having a printed copy there.

Right now I'm looking at Createspace as an alternative to Lulu. I'm still going through the options, so unfortunately I don't have any specifics to give you right now. I promise I will post something as soon as I know for sure. But I don't want to put something out there and then have to change it.

In another thread there were questions about length, color, etc. It's definitely going to be full-color in the pdf, and hopefully in a Createspace softcover too. I just have to work out the costs on the paperback to keep things reasonable. The pdf cost will be 9.99. Page count will be at least 256 pages, and probably more. I'm still thinking about options like posting the glosses online only, making the players' versions of the maps available online only, etc.

Sorry for the lack of specifics, but again, I don't want to commit to something and then switch it later.

At Gen Con, I'm going to do my very best to have hardcopies there. We will have to do the selling off-site, online or something though. That's because I couldn't find a way to make a booth affordable (although I am still looking into sharing space in the IPR/indie booth, so that may change) and you're not allowed to sell there unless you've paid the booth fee. I want to respect that.

I will let you know more as soon as things are settled. Hopefully soon, but realistically it might be another month.

Thank you for the fast response. I'll ask again at the end of June!

Hello Frank--very interesting game here. It's very rare to come across a fantasy RPG that isn't just a D&D "me too".

From the above information, I take it you're not going for a hardcover version of the book? Or is it that a hardcover version most likely wouldn't be full color?

Either way I'll most likely be picking this up, softcover or hardcover. I just likes me my hardcovers :)

I'd like a hardcover in color as well... but at the same time, that sounds pretty expensive going both ways. I'll take what I can get. =)

Yeah, a hardcover just seems prohibitively expensive, at least for now. It's going to be PDF + POD softcover, full-color, to kick things off. I totally hear you about the hardcovers, but holy cow, are they expensive.

I guess the solution is to build a huge audience so that hardcovers start coming into the realm of possibility. I think the best way to do that is to make the game as awesome as possible. So... trying to do that!

One step at a time--good plan :)

I'm really quite jazzed about this game. It's very hard to find an RPG in the fantasy genre that uses a more narrative approach to it's gameplay, and if the finished product is half as good as the small reveals you've given so far, then you definitely have a buy from me.
