Hi

Couple of questions where it appears to me it says different things in different places for the two guns styles.

1) Under the style sheet it says 2 reload actions to reload. Under the differing guns listed; match and wheel lock; it says 5 and 3 turns. Which is correct.

2) Under musketeer style the powder flash uses all powder. Under the glosses it suggests you can get multiple uses. I assume the flash does not discharge the gun because otherwise the maneouvres from it would be impossible.

Under wheellocks it says masterpiece weapons do +1 damage... Is that all masterpiece (swords etc) or just wheelocks? Are all wheel locks masterpiece?

For reloading i like the idea of a trick that allows you to load quicker or perhaps a reload action that performs 2 turns of reload but only has a D2 defence (your concentrating on the action and not the surrounds).

1) Yep, I should definitely have made that clear. The stuff in the gun listing is for the Shot maneuver. In other words, the gun listing on p. 139 tells you how long it takes to reload if you're not trained in (or not using) a particular style. But, if you do know Blackpowder Musketeer, for instance, then you have trained so well that you can reload in 2 rounds (provided you don't break style).

2) Hm. Not sure what you're seeing in the glosses that suggests Flash Smoke Screen can get multiple uses. Are you looking at the Powder Burn entry? They have (probably too similar) names. Powder Burn you can have multiple uses, per the GM's discretion, as noted on p. 234. Flash Smoke Screen is indeed one use, and you're out of powder in that gun after that. However, I allow musketeers to carry a second wheellock, with which they can fire on the next round, using the Shoot, Stab, & Dash maneuver, for example.

But there may be another misleading error somewhere else. Please do let me know if I'm not finding it.

3) Yeah, the +1 damage (vs. Armor Quality <= 5) is just for wheellock masterpieces. Masterpiece swords have their own entries. To be honest, the wheellock masterpiece should have its own entry in the gear descriptions, just like the masterpiece sword does. However, it does not, for the profound reason of... I ran out of space in the layout! Doh! So I just kind of tucked it in there at the end of the page. (On a side note, it was amazing to me how much hiring someone to do the layout would have been. Basically, it would have been a whole 'nother art budget... actually, more. Sheesh. I had no idea.)

Not all wheellocks are masterpieces. They have different entries on the chart. Unfortunately, they don't have separate entries in the descriptions because of what I just described. Sorry for the confusion! Good questions.

4) I love it! Let's make that an official variation for Blackpowder Musketeer. It's pretty powerful (cutting your reload time from 2 to 1 rounds gives you a shot at increasing your damage rate by 150%!) so let's say: Remove Load and Jeer, remove Load and Jape, remove Load and Run; add Rapid Load 0/d2 You reload (in this round rather than needing two rounds as normal); and the name of this variation is... what do you think of Blackpowder Stalwart? You thought the variation up, so let's hear it! Nice one!

Edit: Well, I suppose I should just say that of course we'll have to reserve the right to make further changes if playtesting proves the new variation imbalanced. Looks pretty good from here though.

1) Ok that makes sense I will do it that way from now on. Is there any difference then between matchlocks and wheellocks when in style?

2) Yep my bad, flipping between styles and glosses and getting mixed up. I would take flash smoke screen to not be a weapon discharge but a flaming of powder from the powder-horn.

3) right got it.

4) I think the extra 0/d2 stalwart load is less necessary if the reload times are always 2 when in style. I might have kept the load times from the weapon descriptions but added the optional stalwart load 0/D2 2 load actions as an extra option. I am not sure I like the idea of loading a culvern as quickly as a wheellock. Perhaps an extra comment for culverns?
