In discussion about the way social combat reflects film tropes an idea came to mind.
In many films there are one on one duels or sword fights where the conversation is more important than the tapestry of the fight. Of course styles like swashbuckler and court sword have comments built in but this got me thinking, why should you use a combat scene to resolve a combat? I could see a duel where the swordfight is secondary to the social conflict and the banter drives the scene. The swordfight then just becomes the tapestry for the social conflict to be narrated by the participants.
Thoughts?
