So, it occurs to me as our game is about to start that the Church is a very important structure in the Old Claw that we know very little about. I'm wondering if it might be possible to get a little more clarity regarding just what it is the Church preaches.
I've been assuming that the church is essentially "Fantasy Catholicism" (but feel free to let me know if that is horribly wrong). But accounting for the impact real magic and actual Low Gods running around might have on that default assumption, are there any other major points of doctrine that are significantly different?
Does the church have a pope and an equivalent to the Holy See?
Are priests celibate? Can females be priests or are they always nuns? (and what does it have to say about gender roles in society in general).
Is there anything that (baring the obvious) that the church teaches is moral or immoral that is very different from catholic teachings? (For instance, perhaps there is no commandment against murder, or a belief in reincarnation, no hell, or no problem with homosexuality).
What are some common church laws in church sovereign territory?
I of course don't expect a lengthy exposition on the matter (although that sounds like a great micro-supplement), but beyond "magic is for nobles" and the Martin Luthar vibe with Wrandt's Turn, I've got a real unclear picture on just what the church believes.
Thanks Frank!

Fantasy Catholicism is not far off. Wrandt's Turn was like Luther (yay and thanks for noticing that!) but it didn't have as splitting an effect. The church is still monolithic and very much in power. In fact, Wrandt's Turn really made the Church in a lot of ways (instead of almost breaking it).
The See of Valte Riel is the Church's "home" and seat of power, the symbol is the Nail, the pope is the Cardinal (only one Cardinal, but plenty of bishops and archbishops).
I wish I had more time - but their main preachings are that you have to focus on the next world, that magic is an unknowable burden that the High God does not have to account for, that this world is a trial to be endured, and that to help each other we refrain from indulging our own passions which could just end up turning everyone else in our town into frogmen. I can put more in later but I certainly invite anyone else to chip in with their interpretations of the Church.
