There is an oddity in the wealth system at wealth 0.
To rise a wealth level costs wealth X 1000. You get back previous Wealth X 500 when you drop a wealth level.
Minimum wealth level is 0. However, that does not work because anything X 0 is 0. So it requires no money to rise from Wealth 0 to 1.
A world with no wealth 0 beggars....
Therefore either:
Wealth 0 is a narrative tool for NPCs; or
There should be a fixed value of either the same as wealth 1 (1000 up and 500 down) or a half wealth 1 (500 up and 250 down).
Thoughts?

Well that won't work, will it? :) Especially bad/ironic because the page after Wealth Level is introduced talks about begging! Grr. Oh, well.
So here's the rule: It takes 100 gold to establish yourself at Wealth Level 1.
Here's the reasoning: The progression at WL 2 and beyond is linear. If we made the progression from WL 0 to WL 2 linear also (albeit linear with a shallower slope) we would find that you need 500 gold to hit WL 1. However, there is a larger difference between WL 0 and WL 1 than there is between many other WLs. Also, the distribution of people in society is not linear between WL 0 and WL 1; it's more clustered around WL 1. Finally, 100 gold is an easy number to remember (always a bonus!). All those things together argue to me for the 100 gold rule. Anything I'm missing? Sound reasonable?
