I'm tinkering with a new campaign right now featuring a noble, and this has gotten me thinking about wealth levels and organizations. What is the reason behind giving organizations a separate wealth level?

The noble in question begins with a personal wealth level of 4 and an organization with a wealth level of 1. This seems unnecessary complicated to me. Strange, even. How come such wealthy character got a piss poor organization? Since organizations are linked to a single character, why not give them the same wealth level as the founding character? I would presume that a leader of an organization draws a lot of his personal wealth from his organization.

A solution that simplifies this problem is to track just one wealth level per character. Organizations don't have wealth levels, they just let you maintain more items at your personal wealth level. This opens up another advantage: you get the option of differentiating the different kinds of organizations if you want too. Perhaps Trading Companies can maintain four items, Noble houses and thieves guilds three, armed legions, magic orders and secret societies two, and savage tribes one.

What do you think? Are there any pressing reasons to keep separate wealth levels for organizations?

(baby in arms; typing one-handed...)

Separate wealth levels allow characters like, off the top of my head, Fox Mulder, who is personally of average wealth but has at his disposal a rich organization (the x-files dept. of the fbi). However, that may not need to be a distinction in the rules. Streamlining is a big goal of the upcoming full version, so I will look again at this.
